The Mercer Island School District has closed the Recycling Center located next to Mercerdale Park as of February 28, 2010. The Recycling Center, located on city property, has been operated by the Mercer Island School District through the help of volunteers. The site has been a source for community interaction and Mercer Island's commitment to sustainable development for nearly 34 years and it is important we honor its legacy.
In order to determine the future of the site, the city invites the community to participate in the upcoming opportunities to share ideas and suggestions. Graduate students from the Bainbridge Graduate Institute have been invited by the city to help in the development of a community engagement plan to discuss options that best serve the needs of the community and the legacy of the Mercer Island Recycling Center. The BGI team is excited to be part of this multi-stakeholder process as a core part of their MBA in Sustainable Business curriculum. The BGI team will be contacting you to invite you to an upcoming community to discuss the future of the recycling center.
Date: June 2nd
Time: 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Location: Mercer Island Library
We are seeking citizens who will share their ideas and suggestions at this meeting.
The city has also set up a survey which is another opportunity for you to tell us what you think. Take the survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/mercerislandrecyclecenter

Mercer Island High School Room 205
Come hear about the process of getting solar panels on the high school from our very own Harry Bolson! Learn how he did it, and how you can help to expand the panels on the high school or start your own project at Lakeridge, Island Park, West Mercer Elementary, or Islander Middle School! Join us at the high school in room 205 on Wednesday June 2nd, at 3:30pm. Harry will be interning this summer at a local renewable energies firm, and will be glad to share his knowledge on residential projects in addition to public demonstrations like his culminating project! Join us before it is too late and Harry is off to college!
